Traditional CCTV technologies struggle in a number of scenarios where infrastructure such as mains power and cabling is not readily available. Mi5 Security has introduced a novel solution to this problem – a standalone, wire-free and completely portable surveillance camera. Their “Eye Series” cameras have set a new standard for flexible and easy deployment anywhere and in any environment.
Mi5’s “Eye Series” range of surveillance cameras are built around a world leading, ultra-low power, image proc
essing technology. This patented “Programmable Still Image Sampling” (PSIS) is a unique technique in which the camera operates
between a CCTV (video) and Digital Still Camera (still image) mode.
The technology is based on a CMOS image sensor that utilizes an intelligent high-speed software sampling algorithm to allow the user to program which frames are captured (image sequencing) and stored to a buffer when motion or a trigger is detected.
Intelligent power control enables the cameras to be deployed remotely for up to 9 months without recharging their internal batteries.
Products in the range include indoor cameras (BlueEye and SilverEye), outdoor cameras (RedEye and RedEye Extreme) and industry specific cameras (PatrolEye, VendingEye, TaxiEye and BusEye). The core technology is also available as an OEM
module for integration into a variety of security applications.
Mi5’s leading product in the Eye Series range has been RedEye. RedEye is ideal for outdoor surveillance applications. It includes a IP65 rated housing with modular options that include integrated solar panel, integrated infrared spotlights. RedEye comes standard with 3.3mm wide-angle lens – telephoto lens options are also available.
Customers in New Zealand using RedEye technology today include users in Enforcement Agencies, Councils, Education, Rural, Forestry, Construction, Mining and Utilities. Users in these industries share the common challenge of how to monitor very remote assets and infrastructure. Application examples include:
The product range is continuing to be developed with the addition of exciting new wireless options (GSM and wireless PIRs) to be launched in early 2010.
Mi5 sells the “Eye Series” through a channel model in New Zealand and internationally. Early overseas markets to enthusiastically adopt the technology include Thailand, Canada, Chile and South Africa. In New Zealand, Mi5 is seeking to expand their reseller network for this unique technology.
