High Tech Surveillance Option

In today’s society it is not easy to protect your possessions – especially in a rural environment where your equipment, stock and other assets may be spread over a huge expanse. Surveillance technologies offer the ability to quietly record the actions and identify an intruder or a thief without putting you at further risk.

However, traditional surveillance technologies have struggled in remote areas where infrastructure such as mains power and cabling is not readily available.  In instances where a surveillance camera could be installed remotely, it was very difficult for an untrained person to review any security images.

Mi5 Security has introduced a novel solution to this problem – a wire-free portable surveillance camera. Their “Eye Series” cameras have set a new standard for flexible and easy deployment anywhere and in any environment.

Intelligent power control enables the cameras to be deployed remotely for up to 9 months without recharging their internal batteries. Additionally, Mi5 offer some cameras with integrated solar panels so you may never need to recharge the batteries – a task that the best of us forget to do.

Mi5’s lead product in the Eye Series range is the RedEye. RedEye is ideal for outdoor surveillance applications. It includes an IP65 rated housing (fully weatherproof) with modular options that include integrated solar panel, integrated infrared spotlights for night vision and modem options. RedEye comes standard with 3.3mm wide-angle lens. The RedEye camera is designed to start capturing security images as soon as the device detects movement.

Most importantly, the cameras are very easy to use. Anyone is capable of setting up these cameras and installing them. Reviewing the security images is just as simple. Plug the SD Card into any computer and your images will automatically come up on screen for you to review.  It’s that simple!

Customers in New Zealand using RedEye technology today include users in Enforcement Agencies, Councils, Education, Rural, Forestry, Construction, Mining and Utilities. Users in these industries share the common challenge of how to monitor very remote assets and infrastructure. Application examples include:

• Remote surveillance of valuable equipment, machinery and fuel storage (including NZ rural and forestry contractors)

• Access monitoring (including NZ farm and forestry managers)

• Covert operations (including NZ Police and Ministry of Fisheries)

• Sting operations for known sites prone to illegal rubbish dumping (fly tipping), graffiti and vandalism (NZ local government)

• Time-lapse monitoring of waterways and infrastructure assets (NZ utilities)

• Research studies on animal movements and river patterns (University research projects)

If you have had security issues on your property, or if you are concerned about criminal activity in your area, it may be time to consider surveillance technologies like Mi5’s RedEye product. “You don’t know what you don’t know”
